Man Speaks Out After Newborn Baby Left In Bag on His Porch; Mother Located & Arrested

On Monday, around 11:40 am, a woman was seen putting a package on the front porch of a home in the area of 5600 S. 15th Street. The residents located a newborn baby boy inside the package and called police.

The woman, later identified as Maria Piaz-Perez, 29, was seen getting into the passenger seat of what is believed to be a black 2 door Pontiac.

Detectives were able to locate the vehicle and identify Piaz-Perez and consulted with both the County Attorney’s Office and City Prosecutor’s Office.

Piaz-Perez was booked into Douglas County Corrections for Child Abuse and Abandonment.

Police said the baby will be okay.
